Early and Ancient Civilizations

As our history theme this term, we are looking at the early and ancient civilizations but I am not going to add any links to the history blog unless you add the link in a comment on this post or in a post on your own blog. You must tell me why you recommend that particular website.

Remember we are looking at the following:

Have a look at the headings in the wikipedia articles.  Jot these down as they might be helpful for when you are planning your research and final presentation. Create a mindmap or use bubbl.us which will then allow you to embed your mindmap in your blog. Add any more interesting information you find while searching the web during today’s computer blocks.

Can you find any great websites, videos or audio visuals that I could add as a link?  This could include activities to help with your presentation as a team. I have already linked this post to sections in wikipedia so don’t include those in your comments.

    Hi again Miss Wyatt!

I have been keeping tabs on your blog, and slowly starting to develop mine as well as introduce my students to their own pages!

As always, I am inspired by the work you and your students are doing.

In particular I have begun setting up some basic blog challenges for my students to get them started on their blogs….do you think this is the best way to go? Or would it be better to conduct skills sessions, then turn the blog challenges into more curriculum related activities?

I am still finding this a bit overwhelming, but am doing my best.

By the way, I did write a cyber safety test, and none of my students got the required 100% correct on the first try. This was great as it generated lots of discussion about the reasons why! Eventually all students achieved the 100% status to earn their blog license, and it is fantastic to hear their conversations about the new things they are becoming aware of on the internet.
With your permission, I would like to add your week 8 challenge to our blog challenges in a couple of weeks.
    Regards, Sam G

Just visited your blog, Sam, and you are doing great. I like the way you have created the pages for student challenges. Makes me think do we need a blog teaching students exactly how to do these things or is it better that teachers do it on their class blogs?

Feel free to use anything on my blog as I consider it all creative commons even though it doesn’t say it anywhere on the blog.

Would love to have a copy of your cyber safety test as hopefully I am teaching all grade 6/7 classes next year for IT and as I use cyberquoll for the first few weeks to introduce internet safety, would be great to have a test and license to present to students when they have passed.

Thanks for the lovely feedback! Encouragement is great as I often feel like I am stumbling along.

I will email you the test – it is only mulitple choice – probably not very inspiring. However the discussion generated by incorrect answers was valuable.

I’d better go do some gardening first or my husband will get cross!

    Cheers, Sam G
