Challenge 4 – The three R’s

What are the 3R’s?  If you asked your grandparents they would say reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmetic. Three of the most basic skills needed to survive in the twentieth century.

But we are now in the 21st century, so what do the 3R’s represent now?  Reduce, reuse and recycle.

How do you reduce, reuse and recycle at your home or school?

Are you and your family going to take part in Earth Hour on 28th March at 8.30pm? What would you normally be doing at this time of day?  Will you need to practise doing something in the dark like the fellow in this video? Check out their website to find out what is going to be happening around the world.

When we use cleaning supplies we reuse the bottle. We put other chemical in the bottle.
We reuse paper to play cards. We keep clothes that are to little are we don’t like for
    cleaning rags.

I think that this will be a very memorable event if we all got as much people to participate in Earth hour. It’s amazing how much we depend on it.

    Hi Miss Wyatt
We were unable to view the videos because UTube is blocked at our school, but we will be writing some posts on ways that we can reuse, reduce and recycle at home and at school.

I think it will be fun to participate in Earth Hour! The only thing is that I will be unavailable at that time. I will try to participate another time if I can’t make it, though!

I have never heard of Earth Hour. We do a recycling project here called Envirobuddies. We collect all recyclable paper, cardboard and magazines every Friday to put into the recycling dumpster. We have collected several tons already this year. We want to recycle plastics too but no one will provide the service and I don’t have a big enough vehicle to take it to the dump myself!

We decided to create videos to show the world, and those other schools in the challenge how we Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We collect our left over food scraps at the end of the day. Our students created a video and posted it on our blog at melvilleroom8.blogspot.com. Our students are thrilled with the challenge and loving it.
