Sky(ping) is our eye to the world

Last week we had our first official Skype call with Ashley in Connecticut, USA.  It was 1pm our time and 9pm in America.  Students asked questions, talked about their pets and interests, compared schooling in USA and at our school.  It was an exciting 45 minute call with students using the webcam and smartboard to make the call more exciting at both ends.

Well, it is going to happen again!!

This time we will be talking with Grade 6 students in British Columbia, Canada.  It will be 9am Friday our time and 2pm Thursday their time. But to make the activity more interesting, we need to think about what we want to show them.  We also need to think about what questions we want to ask them.

Please comment about what you think:

  • we should tell them
  • they should tell us

A show and tell of objects that are distinctly Aussie or Canadian!

Anne Mirtschin and I are doing a virtual gift exchange tomorrow. “If you were able to visit their school, what would you give to them as a token of hospitality–a symbol of our country, our school, or yourself.”

Thanks for the comment. I hope that I can skype with them someday. Skyping is sooooo much fun. I hope I can do something like Ashley did. Thanks for everything, the blogging competition was a blast.

    Hey Miss W!
I really enjoyed doing the Skype call with Ashleigh and her class mates. Thank you again for taking time out of your, I’m sure, very busy school day and talking to me. I know that you and your studnets are heading out for summer but hopefully I can still keep in contact with them!

I have been talking to Stehie and Priscial in Argentina, they’re really nice girls to talk to.

    Hi Mrs.W

This is Catie from Mrs.Smith’s class. I really enjoyed our skype call, everybody in my class was acting a little bit crazy because they were so excited, they were like waving to the camera and stuff. I learned some stuff I never knew about Tasmaina, like the animals for instance I have seen the Wallaby at the Sandiego Zoo in California before but I didn’t know that it lived in Tasmania. Well I had a great time and I hope we can arange another skype call soon! Oh and congragulations on your nomination for the award and thanks for nominating Huzzah!

I didn’t read this post in time to give you suggestions, but I would be interested in a Skype call with your class. It would be fun to exchange information about our countries, and just to be able to share our lives. If you would like to do this, you can get my contact information at the link below:
