Did you take action against poverty?
Since writing your post about poverty, have you or anybody at your school done something about it?
Did your school take part in the STAND UP 2008 against poverty campaign? I know my school did, even the grade 6/7 students who were on a bush walk and barbecue for the day. I was in a meeting organizing next year’s timetable with the senior staff at my school and we all stood up when one of the students read a message about povery over our P.A. system at midday on Friday.
Please make sure you visit some of these blogs where students have written some excellent work about poverty both locally and globally.

Hi Miss W,
My colleague who teaches what we call “Ethics and Religion” has spread “Stand Up” posters all over our school. My students got out of the classroom at 10 am and went outdoors where I took pictures of them standing up and wearing a green wristband. With the help of “photofiltre” I then wrote “Stand Up and Act”, in Portuguese, over the pictures showing their hands, in order to publish them with their posts.
I’m visiting the blogs you mention and they are really great!

Hi Miss W,
Thank you so much for your extra effort in making sure our school had good representation for the Stand Up Against Poverty campaign.
You’ll be happy to know our final figures for the school were 256 staff and students. It would have been a lot less without your help.
Thank you for Standing Up!

My school , or in fact all Indian school do not support the internet very much but they too do their part…..they teach the children about it (just like u
) and the teachings are really inspiring!
I want to share something with you Miss W. You know…..first I used to think that fighting against poverty or helping the poor is just about charity of money. But then my teachers taught me that poor can earn money by working but what they actually need is EDUCATION….so now I teach the little poor kids of my amids every day….and their ignited minds and eyes inspire me
