Blogging competition for students

Are you enjoying blogging?  Do you write fantastic comments on other students’ blogs? Would you be interested in taking part in a blogging competition just for students?  It would involve 10 weeks worth of activities, one challenge each week with some bonuses for those who want to go overboard.

Please fill in this form to register and watch out for a page called the Student blogging competition 2008 in this blog during the month of September.  Each challenge will be added ready for you to do.

I will present this to my kids–we start school in September so let’s see if I could present this in a way that won’t overwhelm 1st time bloggers!

    Mrs. Wyatt,

Thanks for starting a student-blogging contest. I am very interested in encouraging my new and former students to join. My blogs are only a year old, but the kids seem to like the interaction.

We begin school in a couple of weeks, so I will be placing a posting on both blogs for kids to see.

    Fingers crossed!

    Mrs. Wyatt,

Could you tell me just a general idea of what the students would be doing as part of their participating in the contest? For example, will this be mostly blogging and commenting on other students’ blogs?

    Thanks in advance,
    Tim Madden

I will be helping my students enter this challenge when they return to school next week. I am still trying to figure out how to add them to my blog without letting them have their own blogs yet. I just want them to get the feel of commenting first.

    Thanks for this!
    Looking forward to it!

    Miss Wyatt,
This is great! I have my new class starting with me on Monday, August 25, and we are jumping into the class blog the first week. With this year’s group of new students, I was planning to have them each earn their own blog. I hope they have all done so by the time the competition starts. Is there a deadline to the competition registration?

    Hi Miss Wyatt
I’ve registered as a teacher with a class blog. This sounds like fun and a way to inspire us with new ways to use our blog. We are a 3/4 class (8 to 10 year olds) in Australia.
    Thanks!

I am brand new to blogging. I have just started a class blog with my 6th graders, and am still unsure of how I want to manage the class. I am with Jilian. I think I want all students to be “authors” of our class blog. Maybe next semester, students can make their own pages or even their own blogs. I saw how to make gmail accounts. Will the plus sign trick still work with a different email address, for example, my school email address? I want to teach students how to post and make comments these next couple of weeks, but they need email addresses. I definitely want to moderate comments until I get more comfortable. Currently all comments go to my school email to wait for my approval. If I get the hang of this, I will definitely look into your Sept. competition.
    Thanks,
    Pepper

    Hi

I know I am not one of your students, but this competition looks fun, so I have entered. I am one of the more techie students in my grade, and am the only student fully trained on a wonderful computer program for teachers, so this should be enjoyable. Good luck and happy blogging.

Hi -6th grade teacher here new to blogging. I just registered my class and I’m unsure if I should give students their own blogs, or just have them use the class blog. I’m browsing to find example blogs. Other than the first page of edublogs, under Edublog Supporters, is there a place I can find a lot of real blogs out there? I want to get some ideas on how others are using blogs, especially with students having their own blogs. By the way, I’m eager to get my students started in this competition.

Thank you for organizing this great event. I am a computer lab teacher and am interested in doing this contest as part of a club with 4th or 5th graders. I am at one school for a whole week then a different school for a whole week so I won’t be able to submit weekly. Do you think it would be a problem to be behind? Let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks.

Should I have all 89 of my students register individually, since they will be competing against themselves, or is there a way to register my entire class at once?
